[EN] - Trained in Brussels (P.A.R.T.S.) and Salzburg (SEAD), graduated from a master degree in Performing Arts (ULB), Leslie Mannès (°1982) lives and works in Brussels. She worked as a performer for the Mossoux-Bonté Company, Ayelen Parolin, Maxence Rey, Ingrid von Wantoch Rekowski as well as with the filmmakers Patricia Gelise and Nicolas Deschuyteneer.

She has been developing her personal work since 2005. Her creations take place mainly on stage but also sometimes explore other relationships with the audience in participatory devices.

Between 2015 and 2023, she has been collaborating with the composer Thomas Turine and light designer Vincent Lemaître. Together, they ventured into the invention of new rituals, seeking to provoke strong and liberating sensory experiences for the spectator. They develop a common writing of the body, the sound and the light as three foundations of a language to co-invent. They created the shows ATOMIC 3001 (2016), FORCES (2019) and RITUELS DU DÉSORDRE (2022).

ATOMIC 3001 (2016) transcends the liberation of a woman in the grip of an alienating electro-light device. FORCES (2019) is the gathering of three cyborg shamanic warriors who use their bodies as a vector for metamorphosis. RITUELS DU DÉSORDRE (2022), questions, through its participatory format, the needs or desires that collective practices arouse nowadays taking inspiration from the history of parties, carnivals and other charivaris.

With the Entreprise d’Optimisation du Réel, she developed the project OPTIMUM PARK (2011 - 2016) a technological interactive mecanism which questions through game the place of the individual inside a system and the potential of a collective emancipation.

In 2012, she co-founds the Cie System Failure with the choreographer Louise Baduel. The company has created 3 shows. INITIAL ANOMALY (2019), interrogates the Artificial Intelligence development and the subject of free will. HUMAN DECISION (2015), speculates on a near future in which the new technologies would have fundamentally modified human nature, its body, its emotions and its communication. SYSTEM FAILURE (2013) explores the theme of control and automatisation surfing humorously in Science-Fiction futuro-vintage references.

Before, she created the performance … ou la brune qui adorait les sardines à l’huile (2010) crimi performance which plays with the codes of fiction and Delusive Figures (2006) short form about the body and its representations.

Leslie Mannès is a partner artist of Théâtre Varia from 2024 to 2028.

Her next stage creation SOUS LE VOLCAN (2024) will continue to investigate rites and rituals in a quest for new cooperation and new collective narratives.

Her research into new folklores is also reflected in a serie of in-situ participatory creations, with for example the participation to the Charleroi Carnival in partnership with Charleroi-danse.
